The trip was planned months ago & the flight tickets were already collected but Berjaya called to cancel our trip due to the disruption in the water supply to the resort in Redang. Four more days to our departure & they laid this on us. My students being doctors had to close their clinics to go on this holiday to get certified as scuba divers & they did not want to be transferred to Berjaya Tioman. I keep thinking there has to be another reason to why my trip to the east coast is hitting a brick wall. I called my counterpart in Perhentian & they couldn’t transport their dive equipment back to the island because the boat operators refused to operate in high waters. Which leaves us with no diving even if we manage to get to the island ourselves. My counterparts in other parts of Redang & Tenggol are not opening till March. What is going on?
The last time I was hindered from a trip, the tsunami struck. Now what? I was told by a scientist whom I have worked with, who’s doing oceanography surveys with the Japanese government, that the earth’s tectonic plates are shifting & becoming unstable due to the rapid rigging of oil that’s causing the earth’s inner layers to be unstable. I asked him if that meant more earthquakes & tsunamis & he replied, “I don’t want to be the one telling you that.” This is just great.
I’m left with the option of postponing the trip & going where my backpack would take me. So I’ve decided to jump on any transportation & head north. I will be updating my travels as & when I get access to the internet!
Gosh… sorry to hear that. So where you now?
I’m back from Thailand! I backpacked to Koh Lipe & then stopped in Alor Setar for meals with my friends there & then to Ipoh to see the beginnings of Ipoh in the Museum!
