I have often wondered why I was built to love the outdoors despite the fear of falling geckos, flying frogs & tyrannosaurus rex. Alright, the latter two don’t exist but it’s in my mind everytime I venture into the jungle. If there would be a gecko that loses its grip, I would be the unsung hero breaking their fall or if a frog decides to leap into the oblivion, I would be the next stepping stone. And then there are spiders. I think I hold the record for being captured the most times by spidey’s web as I strut gaitly on the path to Jurassic Park. Now I exercise a bit more grace by letting everyone else walk ahead of me to experience it first!
I have just gotten back from a weekend of birding in Fraser’s Hill. Armed with a salt spray, I had the leeches under control. I got the birds & made a few friends whom I hope, would still invite me to tag along after I booked them into a haunted bungalow…..Maybe I’ll tell you the story when I get back from my travels to the islands of Johore with the Crown Prince this weekend……No, I’m not going there to be his escort, I’m there to cover the story for a publication. The event is called the Kembara Makhota Johor Jelajah Pulau 2007.
Either way, I will need my wit & humour to be with me at all times when I tag along to see the local community in a place where I once worked & faces are familiar. It seems like not too long ago I switched off the lights in a place where I was meant to return after the bad guys are gone. Not all geckos fall in the right places, or frogs fly at all, when the tyrannosaurus rex is still lurking in the midst…..
