Life is so full of unexpected situations, just when you think you are in the calm of things, something comes upon you & you begin to wonder if you are still on top. So much has happened in the short span of time that I can’t put the rest of my Khmer journey just yet. I will put them in a separate section which I will create specifically for it. Are you ready for what I’m going to tell you???
I HAVE A NEW MALE IN MY LIFE. His name is Miracle Rufus & the manner in which we met was the most unromantic, I would say, even traumatic. No flowers, no romantic wine & dine dates, no holding hands. When I met him, he was on the highway. Hurt. I stood in the middle of the federal highway to prevent cars from hitting him again. All three lanes traffic was halted in my attempt after seeing him yelling in pain. He was fighting for his life. I could see his leg was broken. My heart couldn’t be more torn to see somebody in excruciating pain. A taxi driver & two other motorcyclist stopped to help me pick him up to the side. We took him to the hospital. The doctors had to put a steel rod into his bone marrow to rejoin the fracture. There was no way of knowing his family members because he didn’t have any identity on him. I would visit him daily but he was just grumpy. I thought this friendship was going to be very difficult. He couldn’t talk to me & he definitely couldn’t tell me where he’s from. After the surgery, doctors said I could take him home to recover. And so I did. They told me that he’s a big boy but he’s still growing……….he’s only 6 – 8 months old. Rufus is still a puppy. And so I’ve found myself a best friend & I’m living with this male in my life.
What surprised me further is the number of well-wishers & good samaritans who have come forth to offer me the much needed help. Thank you so much. My colleague teased me that when I prayed for a companion, I forgot to tell God what shape or size he should come in. Hahaha! Very funny but I’m not minding at all. Took him a day or two to get used to me. He eats out of my hand & drinks from a syringe due to the funnelled collar he’s got on to prevent him from licking his wound. I was very apprehensive about him as he was huge & had a perpetual frown on his forehead. I guess all orthopaedic surgeries are very painful. I had to talk to him constantly & let him gain trust before I started to touch him but now he wags his tail when he sees me. Of course, as this is a huge undertaking, friends told me to weigh all the consequences of keeping a pet with my travel schedule but what was I to do? Dump him? If he was a cheating boyfriend, yeah! In a second!
Sigh, my response to them is, you gotta look at Rufus & melt. When you melt, anything & everything is possible. In emotions, there is no logic, and in logic, there’s no emotion. Now that I can have all the romantic dinners for two & hold hands whenever I want, I am not going to be logical now so please just let me fall in love this once…….
aiyoyoy…..is that a labrador? ok lah if u travel send over to here…i help u feed him ok..but i can’t guanrantee u what’s gonna happen to him with my 2 kids LOL
Wei, Jazz, thanks for your kind offer! Right now he’s not in the right mood to be around kids as he’s hurt & might be grumpy. Perhaps when he’s better I’ll bring him over for fun. He’s following me everywhere at home. I think he will bring me a lot of joy!
I beg your pardon, but is Miracle feeling comfortable resting on those rails/bars shown in the foto? Must be painful after a while! Glad to hear about the new male in your life! Keep it up – huh, they say that a dog is man’s best friend and here you are hankering after a man’s best friend. Kind of ironic isn’t it?
That’s so sweet. Rufous looks very cute. Poor thing is probably still in a lot of pain. But that aside, it was a very courageous thing you did.
I bet he does, but that was the picture I took while he was at the hospital! He’s got his rug, baby mat, my rugs & my carpet at home to sleep on….sheesh, talk about the male taking over at home! SYL, I’m a W.O.M.A.N. We’re Of MAN, so technically, we are made of man’s rib & part of man so man’s best friend is still correct except that we adopt it as ours now!!! (You know, the your-money-is-my-money, my-money-is-my-money theory?)
Yes, he’s in pain but he hobbles around my place clumsily just to sleep beside me. How many man you know of, who would do that for a girl??? Sigh……no courage needed for the handsome hunk at all….. 😀
He’s got such a lovable look. I can see why you are so lummm over him. :p
Hi, any further updates about Rufous? I’m sure all of us are eagerly awaiting only good news about him.
Cheers and have a good week-end!
God bless
Winston
Hmmm….. just a thot. Rufous could have been someone else’s boyfriend before you find him at Federal H’way. Could it be that his girlfriend would be having sleepless nites while you are sharing your bed with your new found male friend!!! 🙂
Seacam, when I found him, he was filled with fleas & ticks, what in the world would make a girlfriend let him be in that condition? And to let him roam in the streets, venturing into the highway to get knocked down, this person has got no sense of responsibility at all. Even if he/she comes to claim him, I wouldn’t return him for the sake of the dog.
He’s so easy to train. All it takes is time & patience.
Oh wow Pam, you’re his heroine 🙂 I can just imagine you standing in the middle of Federal Highway doing this! Gosh, what an adventure. And Rufous is simply ADORABLE! I wouldn’t mind dog-sitting him if we had a landed property 🙂
[…] for a pet, for goodness sakes, I acquired him in a rescue on the highway!!! Here, read all about it here! And here! And […]
