In the light of what’s transpired at the meeting, I want to maintain that FFF will continue to engage the services of the brave Indonesian workers who had been instrumental in catching the dogs BY HAND before the traps that were supplied by DBKL to S*CA. If any parties feel that RM50 is too much of a price to pay for one dog, then they have missed the whole point of the mission. You can’t put a price to any life if you profess to have compassion for them. It’s not like the workers of the kelong (fish farm) have the time to get dogs from elsewhere to dump onto Hell Island (Selat Kering). Each one of them caught had been seen by me previously except Garang, the huge dog that’s being treated for heartworms now. FFF will not rescind on the agreement we had established with them way before any other rescuers lifted their fingers to help. We are a team of mostly females. We acknowledge that we have no superpowers to draw the dogs out nor have we any special tools to device traps. When I came into the picture, I feel that water safety for the rescuers were more important than the mission itself, hence I took on the role of a director.
For those who don’t know, the sea is not a place to reckon with & with 11 years of instructing experience, I have led several hundred divers in more than 2000 dives around the globe & the varying conditions of the weather & sea can be very dangerous even if you are a swimmer, hence, I needed qualified lifesavers to be in the team. At least I can sure that the person is capable of looking after him/herself. I know many of my friends are trained but not everyone would want to stick their necks out for animals and I don’t blame them. If anyone doesn’t have the heart to serve, asking them to do so would mean forcing them out of their comfort zone. I thank God for the various members I have right now.
Now a certain Tea, in charge of Pulau Ketam, made the insinuation that ‘a private company is taking advantage to collect donations’ which in his opinion, should be TRANSFERRED to the Pulau Ketam Spaying/Neutering Mission Fund. Giving face to the chairperson (SP Wong), I held back my rebuttal but I think the public deserves to know this, lest other parties decide to make an issue of it & persecute Sabrina again. Do you think it’s right for your hard earned money that goes towards supporting the FFF rescue should be FORCED HANDED over to the perpetrators of the problem in Pulau Ketam, or would you want the surplus funds to go into the maintenance, medical treatment & care for the dogs (cats, rabbits & what nots) AND the caretaker (Sabrina) to improve the facilities at the farm??? I choose the latter.
If the respective organisations had taken pro-active steps, preventive measures & mass education with the years of experience behind them, this problem would not have escalated to this level. I have to commend the woman who made a fantastic proposal to the council which I believe, is the way forward to solve the problem at Pulau Ketam (not Hell Island). It was the only sensible thing she said in the whole meeting considering that she often called me rude….. 😀 (and I’m a certified BRAT too, MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!)
As Zulkifli of MPK was to have called the owner of the kelong, the outcome was quite a surprise to us. Thinking that they may have wrangled succeeded, we were already making plans of building a solid pontoon to be towed to the site. Remember from the start I mentioned that the mechanics of the rescue would have to be withheld??? It was in anticipation of all these trials & challenges that would come Sabrina’s way. I wonder why with all the updates, these big boys (or girls) don’t opt to right the wrong that they have mentioned to the press. I guess they have gotten too big for their hats & feel that they are right.
It’s alright. We are holding the fort and so are our friends worldwide and should anything happen to Sabrina or her dogs at her farm, we all know what this issue has come down to.
Well, here are snippets of the email sent to clarify the kelong owner’s stand on the matter which I feel, would dispel all allegations of us renting the kelong, thus preventing others from their rescue efforts which is NOT TRUE.
It was never our intention to stop anybody from rescuing the dogs because we have no reason to. If it’s entertainment on their part to see their own faces in the newspapers, so be it. I’ve got humans to look after in the rescue as the dogs will be caught & saved by the real rescuers called Adi, Bono & Syafi.
OMG… so it was the kelong owner who didn’t want them there la…? And not FFF’s decision… If that’s the case, then ‘they’ made accusations before seeking clarification from FFF’s side?
Why they like that one? Just jumping to conclusions is not right… what more jumping to conclusions, in front of the press???
Making such biased assumtions will only cause trouble for everyone. Dont they already know that “assumtions make an ass out of you and me”?

I’ve mentioned this before in another forum and I’ll mention this again. The money I donated for FFF, stays with FFF to support the rescue and help other animals under FFF’s care. That’s the whole reason I was willing to part with my hard earned cash in the first place. Because I am comfortable with FFF’s cause.
If Associations want money, they have to “pitch” their plans to the public and do another donation drive.
same goes for me..FFF was the first one who stard rescue mission, not SPCA, they are just media attention! more over, they put the animals to ‘SLEEP’ . we dont donate our heard earn money to put the poor dogs to ‘SLEEP’

my concern is whether other dogs at a certain NGO animal shelter will be killed to make way for the dogs they ahve rescued so far?
FFF is upfront about their NO-KILL policy. And FFF have been living up to its mission statement. Like DogLover and Baca, I’m comfortable with FFF because i IDENTIFY with their mission and objective and their outlook on animal rescue and care.
If i have extra money, I would also love to have a sanctuary where rescued animals (regardless of what type) would have a place to call home for the rest of their lives, free of fear, lots of love and warm besides safety, etc.
But i don’t so i pitch my miniscule effort and aid with FFF. – very simple
you see, i said f i were rich, then i’d love to start a sanctuary….and maybe this is sentiment shared by other animal lovers as well – BUT sabrina is NOT rich and YET SHE STARTED A SANCTUARY for these animals and SHE SOLDIERED ON IN THE FACE OF ENORMOUS ODDS AND CHALLENGES STACKED AGAINST HER WITH NARY AN OUTBURST OR COMPLAINT OR DEMAND FOR RECOGNITION – SHE JUST CONTINUE WITH HER WORK HUMBLY, QUIETLY AND EFFICIENTLY. SHE SAVED ANIMALS AND GAVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE THEIR LIVE IN DIGNITY AS BEFITTING THE WISH OF ALL SENTIENT BEINGS (REGARDLESS WHETHER 2 LEGGED OR OTHERWISE).

Oh it is so so WRONG to ask for help from the GOV to transfer the money people already donated to FFF out for another Shelter. The money is given to FFF, so be it!
As Dr Gorman says, if there is to be a huge spay and neuter operation on the island by another Shelter, we can donate to that later. And that is another issue. Saving the poor dogs now from Hell Island is another issue.

If they really have this space problem, I think it’s time they just go on concentrate on educating, spaying/neutering campaign and joining force with Gov to do Dog Catching work since most of the past contractors are using such cruel methods…why not use S*CA trained Dog Catching Specialist??
I believe in Catch, Neuter & Release. So why not just do that?
Whilst it is good that there are various parties helping out thru the remittance of funds…and from an accounting point of view, the fastest and easiest way for FFF to have access to the our donations will be thru’ the FFF/Sabrina CIMB bank account.
Its a direct in-out basis. Make this your first choice. The other mode will take longer and more paperwork from accountability point of view.
Meanwhile, I too, will focus on the task in hand..the spaying/neutering of strays by spca will be dealt with at another time…

So, whats all those bitching about? Highly inflated doggy collectibles? Heck! Its my money. I buy what I value. The seller is doing a bizz,so she can do whatever she wants with the profits! Its not my bizz! Nor any other NGO’s! Nor the government’s!
I think we all feel the same way. Don’t mind donating to other NGOs again, but give me a good reason why I should donate. If the cause is worthy, I’m more than willing to help. But DO NOT take other NGO’s money.
To be honest, when I donated to FFF (via TV Smith’s paypal account) I had doubts because:
a) I’ve never heard of FFF prior to this
b) I don’t know who TV Smith is
then I followed the updates regularly via his blog along with several other links which led me here. I saw results, received updates and felt like a part of the team even though I live miles away and you know what?
I made the right choice.
Donations are voluntary and if some idiot thinks he has the right to tell me what I should do with it then it’s the same like paying taxes- take money, no action.
So…MY MONEY, MY PASAL.

Adelene and all, I donated via PayPal to TV Smith because I read about Sabrina and FFF through my favorite charity, animalsasia.org (the group working to rescue bears from bear bile farms and working with the Chinese and Vietnamese governments to close down farms.. they have closed 40 already.) Anyway, if Sabrina is okay by animalsasia, she’s okay with me!! Sabrina has worked with them on their Dr. Dog programme, taking well-mannered dogs to schools, nursing homes and other meetings. She is a hero!!!!
After the way the Pulau Ketam residents squandered their state allocated funds to trap and dump the dogs on Selat Kering rather than set up a spay and neuter clinic, I wouldn’t trust them with any money, not least donations from the public.
All donations given were for FFF’s mission to rescue the dogs FIRST AND FOREMOST since FFF was the only organisation rescuing the dogs and FFF has the least money – yet went all out with the rescue work.
If the PK residents want money for the spay and neuter clinic, they should sell the stuff they bought with the money they got for trapping and exiling the stray dogs (RM8 for a small dog; RM10 for a medium-sized dog; RM12 for a large dog). 13 pieces of silver would sterilize a lot of dogs.
Oh yes Kim, you have a good point here… I too read about animalasia and noted if they can cooperate with Sabrina’s FFF to bring in Dr Dog program, obviously they had seen and did a thorough check on FFF. Do you think animalasia would simply just work with an individual to carry out charity?
And Lisa, I do share your point too that it is really hard to trust PKetam anymore but since SPCA had committed to this spay/neuter program…we’ll see what the end result would bring. The world is definately following closely at their work now, so I hope thay don’t take the easy way out again. And please SPCA!…don’t just work on the pets as you had stressed, please forward the spay/neutering for strays too and the funds for this?, well I guess the party who had created the problem should be respnsible!.
The Municipal to what we realise had save quite alot of $$ from their “initial plan gone bad”…paying RM8/10/12 for each dog trapped and exiled. Have you ever thought that if this allocation is given to “Dog Catchers” like before, they would have to commit RM30-40 per dog?? (I doubt Dog Catchers appointed will do a human job too as most Municipals had failed throughout the years in employing humane parties to do the job according to some of SPCA’s reports too) Moreover conducted on an island with only boats to access, I believe the relevant parties would charge double!
Since these uneducated villagers who are already facing a desperate situation is so eager to get rid of the dogs, why not make use of their innocense and greed doing the dirty work. Coming to the allocation the authority think they can save, they are paying peanuts compare to maybe RM60-80 per dog to an experience Dog Catcher!!
Not realizing their plans could get out of hand, as God had intervene this time putting Angels in human form at the job, the devil ofcourse is even more eager to cover up the SHIT they had created. Better if the ball can be pushed to those who had accepted the peanuts!!
Selfish, Greed and Ignorant is my definition to these who had accepted only RM8 to do the killing! But I am wordless to the one who paid and initiated the plan!!!

They all need our support and PRAYERS, especially now. Even at times like this, I still believe in Miracles, and I know GOD or GODs will show it to us. A Miracle always comes forth to those who deserve it when others had given up on them. So I guess all our Angels/Rescuers here and those doggies who still haven’t give up yet do need a HUGE MIRACLE and a Miracle will surface if we put our minds and thoughts together….So lets pray together and let GOD hear us, show to HIM there are still good here, WE WANT A MIRACLE!
felt so helpless reading donald’s blog. feel frustrated with myself as i have no skills to offer, no boat or ship to offer, can only offer some cash donation and dog food.
also felt that aside from a minority group of animal lovers, the rest of the malaysian apathy and 3-minute juvenile attention span mentality has set in.
yes, we really need strong prayers now that there will be more help coming in. and prayers for the soul of the departed dogs.
my friend told me, she has a girl friend who is born with the ability to see spirits and souls of the departed. about slight more than a month back, this girl friend of her has started seeing lots of spirits and souls of departed dogs. my friend only received FFF rescue mission updates from me recently and was shocked to read about the dogs’ plights and was shocked to understand why there were so many souls of departed dogs. i don’t think she’s lying about this. my friend has organised a special buddhist puja for the poor departed dogs. may their soul rest in peace may they never be reborn into the realms of suffering but may they attain happiness and peace and rest in equanity for all eternity.
and for the surviving dogs out there, may you also be free of all karmic obstruction and obscuration and that you will be rescued and find a happy home.
and for all volunteers, supporters, well-wishers of Sabrina and FFF, and all other animal lovers here and worldwide, may your dreams and aspirations for the well-being of these animals be realised.
