My 2 cents on the so called expert comment from that DVS doctor who probably read about it on the internet without fully understanding the situation in her own country or straying dog behavior for that matter – “Being all for the idea of ”˜catch, neuter & release,’ the team was made to understand that when dogs are removed from a place, other strays dogs will come in to occupy the void. Better to have dogs you know & are familiar with than dogs you don’t know/are not familiar with. The purpose is to help curb the stray population & prevent unnecessary proliferation of strays”
While this idea “MAY WORK” in an area with “A MUCH LARGER” population in a given area to help curb the spread of Zoonotic diseases like rabies and not population control , it would involve many aspects which should be considered.
Here’s a tip, the councils only goes dog catching when there’s a complaint. Would any council in Malaysia conduct this program in a complaint area in the first place? There are also numerous areas throughout Malaysia where strays are in abundance but without complaints. What happens then?
