Look at the video to see how Hitam, the black dog that has been gorging himself & swimming back to the island to regurgitate the food for his fellow members (dogs, of course) to feed. He managed to entice Grace, whom Sabrina named, to the hands of the rescuers. Grace is now at Furry Friends Farm. All made possible from your donations.
Video was taken by Donald Tan, who accompanied TV Smith & Sabrina on their mission on 7 May2009.
Kudos to all of you in the rescue team.
I wake up everyday hoping to see the numbers of the rescued dogs go up. I am sure that it meant the world for the dogs there.
Hey, dogs cannot regurgitate food. Unless the aim of this is to sensationalise, then it is okay I suppose. As a vet, I have not known of regurgitation – birds do, of course, for their young. Retification please?
Hi Tom, it was witnessed by the hand who feeds him daily. They were curious as to why he would swim back to the island so they followed him only to find this gracious act putting us humans to shame. I’ll bring treats for him when I go next!
We are over here in Penang and can’t be there to
help but are collecting money to fund the rescue.
Already banked-in some into FFF’s bank account. Please keep saving the Dogs. May God bless, protect, guide & provide wisdom to all involve.
I am currently collecting funds for the rescue too, I have been following the updates very closely and i wish i could be there as well. I pray that the dogs can live through this. You guys are doing such a great job, please do take care and be strong. All the best for tomorrow!
Mr.Tom Tam, I believe in science as well as miracles. Hitam’s actions shows that dogs too feel compassion – which seem to lack in some Malaysians. FFF, there will always be Malaysians, like me, who will continue to support your noble deeds – say “No” to attempts to politicise or ridicule this very noble project of yours to save the dogs. May Allah bless your good deeds, always.
Dogs go out and hunt, leaving their puppies behind at the den with some pack members to watch over them. If the catch is too big to carry back to the den, then the hunters will gobble up as much as they can before returning home. Then back at the den, they regurgitate the food for the pups and ‘baby sitters’ to eat. Animal planet and National Georgraphic.
Hi Tom, you are quite right, dogs don’t regurgitate food which norm are done by birds…penguins…
Our dog(a beagle named Happy) at home, sometimes transfer some kibbles in her mouth and place it on the floor a few feet away for our cat (Lucky) so that this “WAI SIK MEOW” can have some of it else Lucky will be like a shark going round and round Happy MEOWING with all her might to disturb her until Happy had to move aside and let Lucky feast on her dinner first….and my poor Happy would just sit nearby with her eyes staring at her bowl and Lucky as if telling her to hurry-up. You know cats, they eat really slow! To most of my friends, they were shocked to see how my Dog and Cat stay together. They can eat from the same bowl and sleep next to each other.
Well for this case, some Indonesian helpers or any simple person, who may not be as well informed with the meaning of words may just tell you that the dog had gobble up some food in his mouth and spit it back out for the others to eat.
To me it sounded like “regurgitate”.
And true enough, I believe in science as well as miracles as Raja Hanim. Hitam’s actions tells all! If I am there, I’ll give Hitam a BIG HUG! Well, Pam can you do it for me the next time you see Hitam? Tks!
hey tom,
African wild dogs which is a not to distant cousins of the modern domesticated dogs do regurgitate food to feed others be it pups or adults that are unable to hunt for themselves. the dogs or grace for this matter may have reverted to their wild roots at this desperate times.
