Goodbye Shouldn’t Be The Hardest Word

I closed another chapter on Friday. My exit from the country’s largest travel agency was without fanfare or any favoured farewell as the entire company was at the MATTA Fair, the travel show of the year. I went out for a drink at Chillies with Nigel to celebrate my freedom again. The amount of stuff I had accumulated from making a nest at the office was just amazing. I surrendered my access card & keys to the HR department & wrote an email to say how I was going to miss them all, but before that, the good news is, I’m going to have a lot of free time on my hands to blog & you will hear from me more often…….and here’s my goodbye to the goodbys…….

Dear Colleagues,

In my close to one & a half year of service here, I have met & made many friends, a few of whom I can completely trust & count on, a few of whom I would never give the light of day to & a few of whom I wish, I got to know better. I’m sure as you read this, if you fall within the second category, you would say, ‘good riddance,’ but if you fall into the sandwiched categories, I would like to encourage you to keep pressing on despite whatever challenges that come your way because your efforts will be recognised one day.

Thank you for being my reason for coming to work & being there when I needed to self-motivate. In learning to deal with so many characters, I learnt about myself. A journey that would not stop till the day I meet my Maker. Thank you for the time we spent working relentlessly to solve an issue at work & though you may annoy the crap out of me at times, I’ve got to remind myself that I annoy the crap out of you too. Even so, I’m glad that the level of professionalism prevails in this office (or with the people I often deal with at least) & to you whom I’ve offended or said something deserving about you, please know that I meant it & you deserved it. Hahaha! Ok, I’m sorry you got offended but I meant no harm. You got me on a bad day, that’s all. I hope that we would meet in a different circumstance & then you’d be able to see a different side of me……..Thank you for all the reasons to laugh & live for.

Well, I wish the bosses would instil some pride into you for working in the largest travel agency in Malaysia. Just like me, if you love what you do, you wouldn’t have worked a day in your life. Well, I still love what I do except that I’d be moving on to more challenges in view of the diving season coming to a close soon. I hope each one of you would find your niche in the market & soar to greater heights as you continue pressing on in the largest & most prominent establishment in the country!

Today is my last day with here & I can be reached at my email address should you wish to learn scuba & interact with fishes & should you want to keep up with my progress, I’m all over the internet if you would just look.

Thank you, Ong, for being such a great boss in looking after my interest all the time, it was a great pleasure to have worked with you in the last one year. Hope to see you underwater soon!

Till then, Adieus Amigos!
