Independence day takes on a new meaning in my life as I come to the end of my contract with Virtual Malaysia. I get to enjoy the sheer gladness of Rufus, having me the entire day to himself when he rubs his head onto my lap and leans his entire furry body on me while I read my book. With the rainy spell, the air is cooled to 21?C and I get to jab my finger in between his paw pads to keep warm. I decided to take him to Penang where he had the whole compound of my best friend’s house to roam. Spending a total of 18 days with 8 days in between that time in Langkawi, I was truly living it up with great food and company.
I went searching for Pratincole’s nests, combing the wild for the Red Wattled Lapwing and Butterfly Lizards, I was not short on adventure. At night, we went Nightjar hunting. Somewhat satisfying my National Geographic-photographer-wannabe tendencies. In the day, I was fed like a queen, breakfast made for me, grapes for desert, Yakult for mid-morning and yummy lunch followed by a lavish dinner EVERY night. I shudder to stand on the scale after returning home.
I went to Langkawi under the Langkawi Development Authority and Kedah state government’s invitation to look into developing new products for tourism on the island. I took a sabbatical from blogging because I had to settle matters that stifled my creativity. In the mad rush from one event to another, there was no break to even think about things that mattered to me. Thankfully, Langkawi was a much needed holiday.
I’m back with a new assignment in a new magazine. And I hope I can still blog like before.
Hi Pummkin, Please ensure no dogs are left on that hell island. My family and friends have already donated to help fund the rescue of these helpless lives. I have cried buckets over the issue. For a good 40 years of my life, I have tried whenever possible to rescue strays and advice others on how precious a life is. Seeing the number of strays in my city just plummets my spirit … it is always a head-banging thing!!!
My daughter and I have rescued a small-sized female dog near a monsoon drain in our residential area. We have spayed and vaccinated her but still cannot find her a good home. She is now presently with my vet.
If I have the time, I would hop on the rescue team double-quick. But I have to help out in my husband’s office (I am his only admin staff).
Rest assured, my prayers are with all of you.
I may not be with you guys physically but most definitely with you all in spirit!!
My family and I used to wonder whether there are kind people out there willing to go that extra mile for an animal … we had just about given up on humanity … and then seeing all of you carrying out the rescue missions with Sabrina … we heaved a great sigh of relief … there is still hope for humanity.
I will visit FFF one day. BUt I am from Ipoh and don’t know the place … would have to seek help to go there.
My daughter, niece and nephew love dogs/puppies/whatever animals and on hindsight, it makes be feel good that I have managed to pass on the message of compassion to others.
Hugs to All the Members of the Rescue Team. Go forth valiant hearts and relieve the pain and suffering of every life on that forsaken island!
